The new Fortuner has better suspension now because the bumpy ride complaint was already addressed by Toyota. Interior has also been changed to all leather seats in all variants.
Try to test drive a compact SUV like Honda CRV. Maintenance cost is cheaper. You can also try the Nissan X-Trail Tokyo Edition. It's now on Sale. There is no point in getting an SUV that runs on Diesel if there is no Diesel available on gas stations in the first place. Statistics would show that the price of Diesel increases more than the standard Petrol.
Most of the people I know complain about the maintenance cost of diesel engines. It's even cheaper to maintain a 2nd hand Ford Expedition than the new Montero Sport. At any rate, there is no SUV that can beat the King of the Road and that is the Landrover Rangerover, you can get a pre-owned 1997 unit for less than Php 1 million.
Hope this helps.
